TEXTILES
Sarah's textile collection has matured from her original art pieces. Each design is based on an original drawing or painting and is adapted to suit the application. These textiles are printed in Sydney onto cloths suitable for drapery, soft furnishings and upholstery. She is also in the process of developing an outdoor collection which features stain and water resistant properties.
Sarah’s inspiration lays within the natural landscape, in particular the striking botanicals of native Australian Flora. Her vision is drawn from her local neighbourhood; Sarah’s designs for her artworks and textiles begin with her love for the colour and texture of the natural landscape on her doorstep, particularly the eucalyptus and banksia trees that surround the bay and bush.
Composition plays a very important part in the production process, and once a textile design has been established, form and colour is almost a natural progression.
‘’I love to draw on the natural environment in my textiles. And I have always taken a liking to expressionist and modernist movements; I feel that this exploration of form has certainly played a part in how my pieces are composed’
These artworks are then transformed into the bold and contemporary botanical textiles that drape windows, upholstery, cushions and furniture pieces seen in Australia and internationally.
Sarah believes art should have no boundaries; it’s all about having fun and making a space feel that little bit brighter. “I love that my work makes people happy, it’s the essence of why I create. My process is quite organic; I often create an artwork just for the love of painting and then I put my designer hat on and envisage the piece in its final form”.
